Thoughts and Updates: Wednesday (3/5) Edition

Oh. My. Goodness! I’m a PUBLISHED WRITER!!!

The Mask of Emmeline Jones was released this past Saturday. Words can’t express how grateful I am. I didn’t know what to expect and while it didn’t skyrocket to the NY Times bestseller life; it’s mindblowing how well that it’s going. How people have supported me. I’m just so grateful.
So thankful. My heart is full of joy.

When I released the journals that I made to learn KDP (and in a failed attempt to subsidize the cost of publishing.) They didn’t really take off. Mostly, my bestie and my mom bought what they could. Because of this, I didn’t believe that my book would do anything. yet, so far there have been 28 sales on my book.
And that feels unreal. That 28 people wanted to support me.
I have just, no words for the love that makes me feel.

In comparison, with my journals, I have sold nine to date, since I started in May 2023. You can do the math of how cool that is. Also, I will let you assume how giddy that makes me. I did hold my live events on release day, and while they were a learning experience; I think it was cool to do that; it wasn’t super interactive. But it was a chance to tell the world how “The Mask of Emmeline Jones” came to be.

Journey/Thoughts/Comments/Q&As
via a list

  1. The Mask of Emmeline Jones is available. This means I have to figure out how to continue to market it. To get it into the hands of people who would like to read it. Marketing isn’t my strong suit. But I have to figure that out. And it’s on me because there is no budget to pay someone to do it for me.
  2. I have been quietly working on book two since I sent the first edits of book one to my editor. But now I’m loudly saying I’m working on book two. Because of how I wrote the first down draft manuscript and the changes I made in book one, the second book has to have a entire facelift and a bunch of other work done to it as well. But that is my primary focus as far as writing. Except.
  3. I have a new draft that I’m working on thanks to a seed a great friend of mine planted in my head. When I allow it, I let that seed grow and it’s already grown to a full-blown outline and two handwritten pages. I have too many irons in the fire, but as of right now, that isn’t a bad thing. Time will tell if it becomes one.
  4. I’m reading a new book: The Lake by Natasha Preston. Two years ago, my hubby took me to Half Price Books and allowed me to shop for 37 minutes and I could get whatever and however many I could get in that 37 minutes.  And this was one I picked up solely based on looks. I’m five chapters in, and I don’t know where it’s going, but I like the style of writing.
  5. I do believe that I’m going to start a newsletter at some point in the next few months. Maybe do a giveaway. I don’t know. I have to really get a plan under my feet. Cause flying by the seat of my pants isn’t fun.
